村上春樹：僕は『海辺のカフカ」という小説の中で、猫を残酷に殺す男の話を書いたんです。そうしたら抗議のメールがけっこう来ました。そんな残酷なシーンを書くべきじゃないって。でもね、僕はこれまで小説の中で人を殺すシーンをいくつか書いてきたんです。しかしそれに対する抗議はそんなには来なかった。少なくとも猫を殺したときほどは来なかった。それは考えてみたら変なことですよね。
